First Year Matters Selection

Dear Class of 2029,

I’m pleased to share this year’s First-Year Matters selection: the film “Origin”, directed by Ava DuVernay and based on the life of Isabel Wilkerson.

This film, put forth by the First Year Matters committee, serves as your intellectual introduction to Wesleyan and addresses important global issues. The film may be viewed on Netflix or by accessing https://www.kanopy.com/en/wesleyan/video/14135588 using your Wesleyan credentials. Be sure to submit your reflection after viewing the film (due by August 15).

Several important deadlines are approaching:

Due June 30:

  • Complete Academic Road Map Phase #1
  • Submit Housing Preference Form
  • Complete Religious & Spiritual Life Survey
  • Update Parent/Guardian Contact Info
  • Submit Accessibility Accommodation Request form (if applicable)

Coming in July:

  • Health forms and immunization records (due July 15)
  • Submit final high school transcript (due July 15)
  • Submit WesCard photo (due July 15)
  • Submit International Student Orientation Registration form if applicable (due July 15)
  • Academic Road Map Phase #2 (due July 30)
  • U Got This! Module (due July 30)
  • Binge Thinking! Module (due July 30)
  • Start course pre-registration (opens July 30 at 9am ET and closes on August 15 at 12 noon ET)
